All-State Workshop
Join Opus 1 for its inaugural All-State Workshop, featuring Houston Symphony Musicians!
Opus 1 is excited to welcome Houston Symphony musicians Boson Mo (violin), Sheldon Person (viola), and Christopher French (cello) for its All-State Workshop. Students will participate in instrument-specific masterclasses, presentations, and Q&A sessions focused on excerpt preparation and auditioning skills. With registration limited to 20 spots per instrument, students will have the opportunity to receive individualized feedback from our guest clinicians.
Opus 1's All-State Workshop will be held on October 19 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. All violin, viola, and cello students auditioning for Texas All-State are welcome to register. The registration fee is $50 per student.

6:00 p.m. – Excerpt presentations
Students are divided into separate rooms by instrument. Guest clinicians share common challenges in each excerpt and provide principles for successful orchestral excerpt preparation.6:15 p.m. – Excerpt studio class
Individuals are invited to perform an excerpt for the group. Clinicians will work with the performer while engaging the entire class to try improvement and practice techniques. Students interested in performing individually may indicate this on their ticketing form.7:45 p.m. – Q&A session
All students gather for a discussion on audition preparation with all three clinicians. Topics may also include life as an orchestral musician, musical careers, and more.
All registered students will be playing during the workshop. Please bring your own instruments, music, stands, and writing utensils.
